On Friday, April 24th, Northeastern University – Silicon Valley proudly hosted the Spring 2025 Khoury College of Computer Science Research Showcase. The event was a vibrant hub of ingenuity, featuring an impressive 72 teams of our talented graduate students who presented the culmination of their research and project work from the past year.

Held in a dynamic “gallery-style” format, the showcase allowed attendees to immerse themselves in a diverse array of research posters spanning a wide spectrum of computer science. Students passionately shared their work through engaging explanations, live demonstrations, and functional walkthroughs, offering a direct window into their innovative processes.

Attendees, including faculty, fellow students, and invited guests, had the invaluable opportunity to engage directly with our researchers, explore cutting-edge projects, and celebrate the academic excellence fostered at Khoury College.

The success of this showcase and the rigorous evaluation of the projects would not have been possible without the dedication and expertise of our esteemed judges. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to these individuals who volunteered their time to provide invaluable feedback and select the standout presentations.

A Spotlight on Student Innovation

The heart of the showcase was the incredible range of projects developed by our students. From novel applications of AI in game-based learning to new models for complex systems, the research on display was a testament to the creativity and technical skill nurtured at Khoury College.

While every one of the 72 projects was remarkable, here are a few posters that stood out at the event:

A Glimpse into the Future: Keynote by Dr. Simone Bianco

Before the winners were announced, students and guests were treated to an inspiring keynote address from Dr. Simone Bianco, Vice President of Computation at Altos Labs. As a TED speaker and a former manager at IBM Research with multiple patents in synthetic biology, Dr. Bianco stands at the forefront of the intersection between biology and artificial intelligence.

He introduced the audience to the ambitious mission of Altos Labs: a biotechnology company dedicated to unraveling the deep biology of cell rejuvenation to reverse disease. Dr. Bianco captivated the room with a look into the world of cellular reprogramming—a truly cutting-edge field where scientists aim to fundamentally change cells to restore their health and resilience. His talk provided a fascinating glimpse into a future where technology could transform human health, leaving our students with powerful new ideas to consider as they continue their own research journeys.
